KA Performance: New Hire Safety Orientation

Equipment Handling and Injury Prevention

Lesson 2 of 3

Most staff injuries at KA Performance come from two things: lifting equipment wrong and using machines that should have already been pulled from the floor. This lesson covers both.

External reference video. The two clips below are hosted outside our own storage and are embedded from public video services. They are here to show what an embedded source looks like inside a lesson, so treat them as demo content rather than KA Performance policy.

Free Weights

Re-rack plates by size after every use. A loaded bar left on the floor is the single most common tripping hazard we see in incident reports.

Cardio Machines

Wipe belts and consoles between uses. If a treadmill belt slips or a console will not power on, tag it and take it offline immediately rather than leaving a note for the next shift.

Which of the following are signs that a piece of equipment should be pulled from the floor and tagged for repair? Select all that apply.

Lift with your legs, keep the load close, and never spot a lift heavier than you can control yourself. If you see a hazard you cannot fix on the spot, tag the equipment and tell a manager before your shift ends.
